A revisit of a project from earlier in my time learning Blender. I wanted to practice with glow mapping and texturing in general, and thought Sauron's ring from The Lord of the Rings presented a perfect opportunity to do both those things.
Except I didn't have an Elvish script font, so I just used "Symbol." And I still hadn't quite yet gotten the best handle on how the bloom and glow settings worked, so it ended up looking a bit blown out. And the gold metal texture I tried to do...didn't really work. On top of that, the wood texture was premade, and if you look closely you can easily spot where it repeats. And on top of THAT, this was when I was still shying away from Cycles because I couldn't get it to work smoothly. Overall, I wasn't even happy enough with what I ended up with that I didn't even watermark it or post it anywhere.
So yeah! Dare to compare! Better metal, actual elvish script, no obnoxious bloom, and a procedural wood texture. I might revisit it again and try messing with some volume to get the glow to show up better and introduce a *little bit* of noise back in.
